Can you legally marry in Amalfi Coast?
The honest answer for most couples is that the ceremony and the registration are two separate things — and separating them is normal, not a compromise.

Italy will legally marry foreign couples — but the paperwork leads
A civil ceremony performed by an Italian registrar is legally binding for non-residents. You will need a nulla osta (a declaration of no impediment) from your own consulate in Italy, legalised at the local Prefettura, plus passports and birth certificates. The file is lodged with the comune ahead of the date.
Not every beautiful room is licensed
Only venues the comune has licensed for civil ceremonies can host the legal act — a private villa often is not one. Where it is not, couples hold the legal ceremony at the town hall and the real celebration at the villa, usually on consecutive days.
Catholic ceremonies carry civil weight
A Catholic wedding in an Italian church is recognised civilly, but the parish process runs through your home parish and takes months. Start it before you fix a date.
Symbolic is entirely normal here too
Plenty of couples marry legally at home and treat the Italian day as the wedding. No guest can tell the difference, and it removes every document deadline from your planning.

- Naples (NAP) — about 1h15 to Sorrento; Positano and Ravello are longer again on the coast road

- Narrow, spectacular and slow. In season it can double a journey — coaches are restricted and large vehicles cannot pass in places
- By sea
- Ferries and private boats run Naples–Sorrento–Positano–Amalfi in season and are often the faster, calmer arrival
- Plan for
- Steps. Many of the coast's most beautiful venues involve real climbs — worth flagging to older guests early

- Historic properties come with real constraints — protected gardens, load-in windows, noise limits — so an experienced local planner is standard rather than optional.
- Florals, furniture and lighting
- Estate rooms need less dressing than an empty lawn, but candle and lighting plans in frescoed interiors are specialist work.
- Photography and film
- Priced by coverage; a next-day portrait session on the lake or the coast road is a common addition.
- Music and curfew
- Amplified-music curfews are strictly enforced in Italian and French communes. It shapes the running order — confirm the venue's licensed end time before you plan the party.
- Transfers, boats and logistics
- Lakeside arrivals by boat, coast-road shuttles and remote bastide access are real costs and real timing risks. Build them in early.
- Legalisation and translations
- If you are marrying legally in Italy, budget consular fees, sworn translations and an interpreter on the day.
